What to Expect at our Club Meetings?Hi everyone,
Welcome to our new members! If you just signed in to this site, and want to know what to expect at one of our crafting meetings, then let me explain. We are a club, here's the usual agenda: ---------------------------------------------- Generally, it is at Stonefire Grill 4325 Del Amo Blvd, Lakewood, 90712. But check our next meeting location on our "Home Page". When it is a party we may change the location, I usually come early to get our table ready. You will see us gathered crafting, a few members may be there with their crafts out on the table chatting away. Around 5:30 pm, members start to join us. You're welcome to show up anytime after 5:30. We generally craft until about 8:30 or 9:00... --------------------------------------------- You can bring any project you're working on, or if you don't have one yet or don't know how to craft, knit, or crochet, just bring some supplies and someone in the club will help you get started. Debb or Pat will help you with your crocheting needs. --------------------------------------------- Usually we order food, Debb goes over an Agenda of SnC news old & new, then we craft away while chatting. Everyone is friendly and will help each other while sharing our new projects, or progress on our old ones. We also share stories of our "frustrating" moments and our glorious victories. Debb may hand out flyers for upcoming events and discuss old and new business. You can order food and drinks. we discuss everything from crafting, knitting or crocheting, or any other crafting projects our members may be working on. We all love to socialize so chatting is always going on at our meetings. Our age varies and everyone is welcome. We're all working on individual projects and sometimes we have a few club projects that we work on. We do not demand anyone to work on charity projects but welcome all donations from our members. email us: stitchnchicks@msn,com ---------------------------------------------- We look forward to you joining us at our next meeting! --------------------------------------------------------------------- Source: I got this idea from the message board at "South Bay Knitting Group Meet-up" and thought it was a great idea to add to our posting! |
What to bring?
When crafting be sure to pick a “beginner” project and one that is easy to transport. Bring all supplies needed to complete. There is no electrical plug available, so bring cordless supplies. Always bring complete instructions and supplies. If unsure someone at the meeting can help you
As a beginner stitcher you may want to start out with the standard "worsted weight" yarn. Be sure to stick with a color that is easy on the eyes like white or cream or the lighter shades. When the yarn is curly or has a "bumpy" appearance it will be more difficult to see the stitches. ------------------------------------------------- Stitchers the needle size, it all depends on whether you crochet (knit) tight or loose. Usual rule of thumb is if you knit or crochet loose then go smaller and a tighter crocheter/knitter then go bigger. Most yarn will tell you which needles work best with that yarn. Usually if you are crocheting a size "G' or 4.50 is a good size to work with and #10 needles for knitting work well. You may want to work with steel needles as they are easier to slip the yarn off and on in the beginning. ------------------------------------------------- There are many yarn cases to carry your projects in at Michaels that are really great, and if you wait for their 40% off coupon you can really get a bargain on one. There's no need to run out and buy lots of stitching supplies, of course once you get hooked on to knitting to crocheting you will find yourself at a yarn shop more and more. ------------------------------------------------- Some excellent crafting shops are; Michaels (always a great supply place with lower prices and lots of choices) ….. Super Joanns (there’s one on Carson near Bloomfield & one on Los Coyotes and Palo Verde )…. Stitches 'n Time (on Bellflower and Flower) friendly there and just sit with the ladies on couches and knit or crochet Alamitos Bay Yarn Co (in the Alamitos Bay center at the end of Marina Dr next to Khoury’s and Busters) Fabric Barn great for all craft supplies..( 3111 East Anaheim Street Long Beach, CA 90804) M&L Fabric tons of fabric, laces, and other craft things cheap…(3430 W Ball Rd, Anaheim, CA 92804) Hobby Lobby lots of crafting supplies including yarn...(7202 Edinger Avenue Huntington Beach, CA 92647) --------------------------------------------------------------------- What we're about: Our club likes to have fun at our meetings. We spend time sharing and admiring each other's projects and then we usually eat and continue chatting as we work on our own projects. If anyone needs help everyone is always willing to pitch in. We may work on a club project, but you don't have to participate unless you want to. ------------------------------------------------- The point is to have a great time, learn, and meet others who love to craft. And if you get hungry there is always plenty of food to order. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome and craft-on! |
